One in five children in Forsyth County suffers from hunger. Hunger has devastating short and long-term impacts on children and our community. Hungry children:
Cannot learn effectively
Lag behind their well-nourished peers
Are more likely to be hospitalized
Are less prepared to be part of the workforce and present a greater risk of chronic poor health as adults
At Forsyth Backpack Program we fight childhood hunger in our community by filling the weekend food gap for school children. We provide child-friendly, nutritious food directly to students. All food is child-friendly, including milks, proteins, fruits, cereals and snacks.
