Our Mission
Our Work
Hunger affects our community — and our future.
Forsyth Backpack Program is a local nonprofit organization based in Forsyth County focused on providing nutritious food to children and their families who are at risk of food insecurity.
Forsyth Backpack Program is a local, volunteer-led 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission to provide nutritious food in backpacks on weekends and holidays to local school children who have been identified by school personnel as being in need of food.
Without the backpack food, these children may have little to no access to food (healthy or otherwise) over the weekend or long holidays. With the food, the children are able to return to school after the weekend or holiday break better ready to pay attention, learn and play.
Children are the future of any community. They grow up to become the work force and form the social, political and religious fabric of society. Chronic hunger has a devastating and lasting impact on kids and our community.
Hungry kids suffer physically, educationally, developmentally, and socially. They lag behind their well-nourished peers in almost every way. They can never quite catch up—suffering the impacts of hunger even into adulthood. As a result, the community suffers too. We want to create a better today for these kids so we can help create a better future for them and all of us.
